The pollution of the sea, the river and the wetland are aggravating factors besides climate change, biodiversity loss and anthropogenic impact. In response, Barranquilla+20 initiative MallorquinVIVE aims to promote the ecological restoration, community defense, communications for conservation, and climate adaptation of the communities living near the most important wetland of the city; the cienaga de Mallorquin. Through their various work they have impacted more than 20,000 people directly.
Barranquilla20 is a youth and women-led NGO whose mission is to educate and empower children and youth in the sectors of climate change, biodiversity and water in Colombia and LAC countries. Founded in 2012 and legally registered in 2018, they have organized and supported grassroots movements, campaigns, policies and projects fighting for climate action, environmental protection and environmental education in Colombia and at regional level.
