Climate Words is building a just database of words, books and stories, centering frontline voices and pioneers on climate discourse. The organization invites authors, scientists, indigenous leaders, policy-makers, explorers and designers to select a word that is central to their climate work and define it in their own voice. They support each definition with factual information, photographic evidence, literature and resources for further learning. Climate Words' goal is to give people the tools they need to talk about climate. While various organizations share limited ‘words you should know’ lists, they differentiate themselves as an organization building an extensive climate lexicon. They are bridging the gap between climate knowledge and action through storytelling, design and visual communication. Climate Words are developing four pillars around words, books, stories and events. Photography captured by insider lenses plays a central role in their storytelling.
Climate Words mission is to promote climate literacy by curating an extensive lexicon of key words submitted by experts on the frontlines.
