Snowland Journeys work in remote regions where there are no schools, where children are often sent away to school in Nepal’s capital city of Kathmandu from as young as five years old. For ten years or more they are unable to see their parents, due to the remoteness of their villages. Through Snowland Journeys’ comprehensive Reintegration Programme, these young people are prepared and enabled to return home. The reunions are vital to help the teenagers understand why they were sent away, to reconnect with their culture and heritage, to help indigenous culture be continued into their generation, and to pass on knowledge they have gained at school to villagers about healthcare, menstruation, environmental awareness and gender equality. Snowland Journeys also help to build sustainable livelihoods for Himalayan communities, with an aim that in future children can be educated nearer home. The organization’s purpose-driven projects are community led and genuinely making a difference in Nepal’s frontline communities.
Snowland Journeys is a non-profit organisation which enables reintegration of young people with their families and supports sustainable development in communities of Nepal’s High Himalayas. These mountain villages are some of the most remote places on earth, at the forefront of climate change impacts.
