Derrick (He/Him) is a dynamic professional passionate about driving global impact through storytelling and sustainable development. Derrick resides in Nairobi, Kenya, and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Technical University of Mombasa.
As the Head of RE!Granting at Re-Earth Initiative, Derrick leads a transformative regranting program supporting youth-led, community-driven climate solutions worldwide. His leadership ensures equitable resource distribution to empower marginalized voices and foster innovative approaches to sustainability.
Derrick's professional journey includes an impactful tenure as Africa Correspondent for Thred Media, UK, for a period of over 4 years where he authored over 200 published articles spotlighting critical UN SDG issues. His work has amplified voices from the African continent, bringing global attention to challenges and solutions in climate action, gender equity, and youth empowerment.
Derrick is a champion for environmental stewardship and social equity, blending journalistic expertise with hands-on leadership in grant management. His commitment to transformative change extends to grassroots initiatives and global advocacy, making him a key voice in the fight for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
In March 2023, Derrick joined Re-Earth Initiative as a Writer. He evolved as the Editorial Lead and later as a Grants Coordinator in the Cycle 1 RE!Granting Program. From October 2024, he is the program lead for our RE!Granting Program overseeing the grant support initiative within the organization.
