Isabel was born in Washington DC, USA, but grew up in Aguascalientes, Mexico. She is half Mexican, half Irish. She graduated from Cornell University in May 2024 with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a minor in French Studies. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, and is expected to graduate in May 2025. She is particularly interested in the role that technology can play in a more sustainable, and greener future.
Living in Washington DC, a very political environment, led her to be passionate for many social causes. In high school she would frequently participate in walkouts, protests, and demonstrations. The more she participated in these activities, the more she realized that the issues she was passionate about were all interconnected. She also is very interested in the role technology can play in a transition to a cleaner, more sustainable, and just world, pushing her to pursue studies in engineering.
In her free time she plays ultimate frisbee, enjoys drinking tea, going on hikes, and watching ice hockey!
She started at REI in early 2021 as a member of the organizing team, and translations coordinator. Previously she worked in external communications, partnerships, recruitment, and projects such as Live on the Frontlines.
