Sofia is a 20-year old food and climate advocate from the Quechua People of the Andes region of Peru. She has a background working in on-the-ground climate innovation initiatives and climate policy.
Since 2022, Sofia leads efforts to create resilient and sustainable food systems in peri-urban communities of Lima through the youth-led organization Ollas Sostenibles. Her commitment to driving innovative grassroots solutions bridging science and local knowledge has been recognized by institutions such as Solve at MIT, UNICEF Office of Innovation, and the United Kingdom Embassy in Peru.
In addition, she was a Youth Negotiator for Peru's National Delegation at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan where she worked on Indigenous Peoples issues as well as the Gender & Climate Change and Just Transition negotiations tracks. Sofia serves as Policy and Education Director at Re-Earth Initiative, leading our efforts to decentralize climate education and knowledge resources to empower collective justice-centered climate action.
She is currently an undergraduate anthropology student at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos focusing her research on non-economic and cultural losses and damages caused by climate change in indigenous communities of the Andes.
Sofia co-directed the Live On the Frontlines campaign of REI. She led the inaugural short-film “Pescando Oportunidades” of the campaign and led its official launch at COP 27 in Egypt. She currently serves as Policy and Education Director leading teams of youth researchers and writers within three areas in the strand: climate education, editorial, and community training.
